Hey guys,
just a really quick email to say that although Mr Bird has a rather 'way out' name - he is in fact an up front guy.
I own the gallery in the East end of London where he is having the launch of the magazine and where he conducts most of his meetings.
We're not working together in any form but he does pop in a lot and I have got to know him pretty well.
He is not run of the mill by any means, but that can also be a good thing in the art world. He is heavily involved with the art scene and has a hell of a lot of energy to promote people.
I have no doubt the magazine will happen - there are a large number of artists involved already and he is busy with the final stages of publishing.
Anyway, good luck to anyone who's already part of it and I'll maybe see you at the launch!

Ben Abbot - see the street art post. Ben - I assume the gallery is called east street gallery and its in London? but I cannot find any info about it on the web...
re the creative times - despite the 2008 autumn launch there still appears to be only 2 artists signed up..and to view their work and lots of the links you have to down;load as a pdf file...i like to just click and read, bits like that put me off. ( not that i'm interested in TCT - just a general comment about sites that use pdf files..)

The gallery is called Austin by ArtKandy, or Austin Gallery on 119a Bethnal Green Road (at the junction of Brick Lane).
We've been open since the end of May this year and currently have a phenomenal exhibition on by Mad Meg from Paris (her 1st UK show) - but it ends today, so may be too late... see http://www.madmeg.org
Tomorrow we have another great new show starting by fashion designer and artist Lu Flux..
Exhibitions run for 2 weeks at a time and we're fully booked until January when there is a slight change of direction planned.
Again, the website (artkandy) is down (see other thread if for reason) just now but will be up and running again soon.
On the magazine front: I believe from speaking with Bird that around 60 artists have actually signed up, as last week he asked if he could use some of the cafe space for the exhibition on top of the gallery space..
I hope so or we won't have much of a launch or exhibition!!

So is it above, or next to the newsagents?
My stepson lives reasonably close to there, he likes good coffee too, perhaps he'll pop in and write a review for you too :)

I'm glad I found this forum - it's really great!
I only stumbled across it as I had misplaced Bird's number and wanted to confirm how his planning was going - typed 'Bird the creative times' into the google and this was the result ...still haven't got his number though :)

Hi everyone, I have written a blog post about Bird and the Creative times, hopefully anyone who is approached by him will find this blog post when they google him. I signed up to be in the magazine when I graduated July 2008, and still nothing. I don't think he's quite a scammer, but i'm starting to get very near to that point of view. It's a joke!

Hi Lucy,
thanks for the alert. Looks like you have to kiss your dosh goodbye and one hell of a lesson learnt. Don't beat yourself up over it, I made loads of mistakes putting trust where it didn't belong when I started out. These charmers are so powerful best staying away from their spell. By the by, are you a member of bristol creatives. I recently joined and based in Weston.
All the very best for future endevours

If anyone is approached by someone who purports to be producing a magazine for sale or distribution, it has to be printed. A question to be asked is who is publishing, or printing, it? If you get a reply a very good publication is the 'Writers and Artists Yearbook' which can be found in most libraries. There you will find lots of contacts.
On the other hand it could be an Ebook in which case surely the question to be asked is 'how will it be publicised to gain the widest circulation.
Just a thought

Usually if it's a genuine offer it doesn't cost you a penny to be included in a publication.
