How should I work out how much to charge for my paintings? I am completely new to the industry and have no idea where to even begin.

Hi,
Difficult one! My starting point is the cost of the materials used, size, time taken and work involved, and then my subjective interpretation of the potential appealability! But I guess at the end of the day, its as much as anyone wants to pay for a piece of artwork. Commissions are much easier because the buyer generally knows what they want and the limit of what they expect to pay for the finished work.
A major factor for me is to be realistic about what I would be happy to accept for any particular piece of work to leave my possession.
Good luck,
Wendy

Hi.
Totally agree with Wendy.
It's tempting to let go of work for far less than it's worth in the beginning. I did it.
As time goes on confidence builds about pricing.

Good luck
